The Indian Chamber of Commerce, or ICC, as it is popularly called, is the leading body of business and industry in East and North East India. The Chamber is made up of some of the largest corporate groups in the world, with business activities around the country and abroad. In the past, the ICC has had the privilege of engaging and hosting a number of respected Indian Presidents and Prime Ministers. With more than eighty years of service to the country, the ICC retains the position of first chamber with former Senior industry leaders forming the center of its Executive Council or the Board of Governors of the Chamber.
The constituents of the ICC are primarily large manufacturing units with businesses across the country and abroad. A large number of Indian corporate bodies are the backbone of the organisation. Leading industrial promotion associations, banks and financial institutions, as well as governmental organisations, are members of the ICC and lend a diverse supporter base to the Chamber. The ICC also draws its authority and support from the progressive national character of its representatives. Another distinctive characteristic of the ICC is that industrialists and owners of leading corporate companies in India are themselves members of the ICC and are responsible for drawing up the policies of the organisation. Through the direct supervision of Chambers, its solid and progressive membership of major companies and its competent secretariat, the ICC has adapted to developments in the wider order and is confidently moving forward to meet the needs of the 21st century.
Amidst the global pandemic the Indian Chamber of Commerce is maintain business relations through the digital technology. It is hosting a Live Homeland Security Expo and Buyer Seller Meet (BSM) between March 1 to 3, 2021, and the Indian Security Expo between March 4 to 6, 2021 under the auspices of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the Government of India. It will be an outreach initiative for Defence, Homeland Security and Safety aimed at the export markets and defence needs of countries with high export potential. The Homeland Security Expo and BSM provide an important forum for industry leaders to examine emerging business opportunities in Defence and Homeland Security, in accordance with the Honorable Prime Minister of India's mission of "Atmanirbhar Bharat" to improve domestic development. The said virtual platform aims to bring in key leaders from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Police Forces, Civil Defence Force, Defence Officers, Industrial Security Authorities, Public Security Officers and the Government. The major attraction will be the country and product specific buyer networking sessions by way of inviting most potential international buyers across globe.
The fast development of the domestic security and emergency response market in Asia-Pacific can be driven by the rising domestic security expenditure by developing markets such as China, Japan, South Korea, and India. This rapid growth can be attributed to the need to counter growing security attacks, diplomatic wars, strikes and demonstrations, chemical weapons and natural disasters that have led key providers of homeland security and emergency management solutions in the region to establish enhanced techno-efficient homeland security and emergency management systems and facilities.
Today, the concept of national defence has widened in terms of defence and homeland security, including network security, new technology, among others, in recent times. The Government of India has continually promoted an enabling environment, implemented policies, and introduced reforms to improve India's Defence Industrial Base.
